History
Early C19 terraced house with late C19 shop, altered in late C20 with loss of bracketed eaves. Premises of W. Roch James butcher since 1901, the firm established 1893 in premises at the Old Bridge.  

Exterior
Terraced house and shop, painted stucco with slate close-eaved roof and brick left end chimney. Paired square gutter brackets to eaves. Four storeys, three-window range, the right bay spaced further apart. Hornless sashes to upper floors, 9-pane to top floor, 12-pane to second and first, plate glass sash window to ground floor left and C19 shop front to centre and right. Shopfront has fascia and cornice over three pilasters, the left pair framing the house door and the third to right of shop. House doorway has a flush panelled 6-panel door with thin overlight in panelled reveals. Further door with margin lights behind. Shop has recessed double shop doors to left with upper parts glazed and margin lights with coloured glass in corners, and tilting overlight. Shop window has one plate-glass pane canted in to shop door and one to front. Slate-hung N end wall. Rear wing with cemented slate roof and brick end stack.  

Interior
Interior not inspected. Ground floor butcher's shop premises with tiled walls.  

Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a tall four storey building in late Georgian style, part of the group 5-13 Market St.
