History
Large later C18 town house built for Nicholas Roch, died 1786, probably altered in C19 and much restored and altered in conversion to flats in late C20. Occupied by Edward Eaton Evans, solicitor in 1884 and by C. C. Saies JP, owner of a shop in Market Street, in 1926.

Exterior
House, painted stucco with slate roof, boxed eaves (renewed in late C20) and C19 yellow brick end chimneys. Three-storey, five-window facade with thick bands over ground floor and immediately over first floor window heads. Renewed small-paned hornless sashes, 6-pane to top floor, 12-pane elsewhere, and centre door in flat-roofed stuccoed porch. Porch is mostly late C20 replica: angle columns, frieze and cornice with small modillions, and C20 panelled door in plain surround. Basement window to each side of porch. Left end wall arched doorway to left with plain fanlight, 4-pane sash above and to top floor. Long SE rear wing in two sections, much altered. Late C19 front railings on low stone coping, two linked by arch over a small spearhead and a larger spearhead to each fourth rail. Railings splayed in each side of porch, with gates to basement steps.

Interior
Interior much altered as flats. Staircase at rear, parallel to front wall, replaced up to first floor in late C20 then early C19 dog-leg stair with scrolled tread ends, turned balusters and column newel. One long and one short flight up to landing. One blocked arch with imposts and keystone at top landing. Some panelled shutters remain.

Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a substantial C18 house on the edge of the town centre.
