Situated on the corner of Main Street and Hamilton Street.
History
Late C18 to earlier C19 end-terrace house now offices, with rear outshut. There is said to have been another building attached to right, so that the present fenestration of the gable end to Hamilton Street is C20. Buildings shown on this site on 1844 tithe map. Occupied by J J Morris, estate agents, 2000.
Exterior
House with shop front, colourwashed roughcast cladding, with slate roof higher than that of No 18. Chimneys removed. Three-storey, 2-window range, top floor with square 9-pane sash windows and first floor with 2-12-pane sash windows. Ground floor has big square plate glass shop window set centrally with doorway to right. Half-glazed door with plain overlight. All openings windows have eared surrounds, with keystones to those of ground and first floors.
Right end elevation prominent on corner has 2-4-pane sash windows at attic level, one similar to first floor left and ground floor C20 shop front, with plain pilasters and broad fascia. Outshut rear has end wall with 2 square 9-pane sash windows, one above the other, and rubble rear wall with 9-pane sash under eaves left, walling set back to right to leave exposed an upper window of No 1, but the outshut roof carried over space.
Reason for designation
Included despite loss of chimneys as large earlier C19 house on prominent corner site.
