Single archway at former entrance to avenue leading to orchard on E side of Castle Hall estate.
Exterior
Probably early Cl9, repaired C20. The Castle Hall estate was extensively improved l804-l7 by Mr Benjamin Rotch, a Quaker from North America invited by Charles Greville to settle at Milford. Mr Rotch made "ugly slopes into pretty terraces, formed new land in front of the house" and other major garden works which are described in his daughter's memoirs.
Split stone arch ring in short section of red rubble wall with corbelled parapet. Attached square gatepier forward on right. Lower stubs of wall run back to low piers with pyramidal cappings.
