The Terrace runs parallel with the Rhymney River along its E bank: this building is at the S end of the listed group, attached at right angles to the terrace range.

Built early-mid C19 as accommodation for managers/officials of the Rhymney Ironworks. Traditionally the large houses at each end (Nos.1 and 9) were for the Manager of the Company Shop and the Chief Colliery Manager; the next two houses of intermediate size were for the Chief Cashier and Assistant General Manager; the central houses were for lower managers, surgeon, police officer and chief fireman. A rise in status meant a move to larger accommodation. End families were traditionally church supporters and the centre families chapel goers. The Terrace is called Buchan Terrace on the OS map 1875, referring to Andrew Buchan, manager of Brewery and Company Shop, both situated along this street by the river. Residents objected to the brewery association which led to the change in name. Map also shows tramways running on each side of the terrace.  

Large house, attached at right angles to 2-8 The Terrace but with higher ridge and eaves. L-shaped plan comprising a broader entrance wing to left and a shallower wing stepped well back to right. Of stone rendered with stucco; Welsh slate roof with boarded overhanging eaves. Stacks are very narrow and set astride the ridge. Windows are generally 6/6 pane sashes with moulded stucco architraves and bracketed sills. Gable end main entrance has central gabled porch with moulded doorway and four-panelled door with overlight, side windows; to each side are sash windows; sash window without glazing bars in centre on first floor. Side return elevation right of two bays and centre French window. To right the recessed 4-bay wing has the two middle bays closely spaced on ground floor but without a window in left hand first floor middle bay. 2-bay side elevation left facing river. Low garden wall fronting road is of yellow brick with rock-faced coping, rendered below, blue brick plinth; rendered piers with massive capstones; boarded fencing now in place of former railings which survive only in a couple of sections.  

Interior has 2 staircases, one rising from rear of entrance hall which has rooms leading off either side. Retains 6 panelled doors with surrounds. Drawing room to right has ornate plaster cornice, semi-elliptical arch and fireplace with cornice on consoles, panelled shutters. Porch has flagged floor and part glazed inner door with coloured margins.  

Listed as early-mid C19 housing associated with the Rhymney Iron Company. Group value with other listed houses and items in the range.
