Aligned with the main entrance of the house, at the boundary of garden and park.
History
The gate was made in 1825 by R.Hughes of Wrexham, and was originally at Glynllifon, Caernarvonshire, another seat of the Wynn's. It was moved to its present site c1970-80.
Exterior
Highly ornamental cast and wrought iron gate and piers, painted and gilded. Open-work cast piers with quatrefoil decoration and applied rosettes, each surmounted by a gilded heraldic emblem (a double-headed eagle). Gate has enriched top and bottom rails, and applied gilded wrought iron decoration comprising 4 linked semi-circles with heraldic motifs.
Reason for designation
A very fine example of an ironwork gateway, which although not at its original site, forms part of the context of the house at Rug.
