History
Erected 1899 for Sir James and Lady Madeleine Williams Drummond of Edwinsford. Formerly stood in front garden of derelict mansion, the ancient seat of the Williams family.
Exterior
1899 small stone upright sundial. Triple stepped circular base, square pedestal with moulded base and cornice surmounted by 4-sided stone sundial with obelisk head. Panelled sides to pedestal with carved work and raised lettering. Dated 1899 on E face with heraldic shield and initials J.S.D. Cartouche to N with lettering: " Do today's work today ". Heraldic shield to W with initials M.L.D. Cartouche to S with inscription: " The night cometh when no man can work ".
Three faced sundial with inscription to W side: " Watch and pray for ye know neither the day nor the hour ".
Reason for designation
Attractive late C19 sundial. Group value with mansion and listed estate buildings.
