Bridge 131 over The Montgomeryshire Canal
Location
Carries the former main Newtown-Welshpool road over the Montgomery Canal immediately north of the Nags Head Public House.
History
The Montgomeryshire Canal was built as far as Garthmyl 1794-1797, and extended in 1815. This bridge is the first to be built as part of the extension of the canal to Newtown.
Exterior
Red brick single arch span, with blue brick to parapet (representing a later rebuilding); rusticated stone string course at foot of parapet.
Reason for designation
Part of an important group of canal structures at the former Garthmyl wharf.
