Wig Bridge
Location
Located on Wig Lane, which connects the main A.470 Caersws to Machynlleth road to the B4569 from Caersws to Trefeglwys, approximately 1.75Km N of Caersws centre.
History
Built 1847, to design by Thomas Penson the County Surveyor for Montgomeryshire, to replace two smaller bridges over the River Garno.
Exterior
Built of local squared and coursed rubble. A single segmental arch having one ring of chamfered projecting voussoirs with central keystone rising to the square string following the camber of the road. Three-course parapet with flush copings each side, having scattered through stones projecting with rock-faced ends. The ends of the bridge are splayed, and the parapets end in terminal piers.
Reason for designation
Included as a good example of a small masonry bridge of the mid C19, still in its original condition.
