Location
Situated on the N side of Iscoed Road, next to St David's church, in raised walled garden amongst mature pine trees.
History
Marked on the Llanedi Tithe Map of 1841. The property was then owned by Jenkin Davies Berrington and the Rev. William Berrington, and occupied by Robert Kirk.
Exterior
Early C19 Regency style villa. Elegant S front, painted stucco with simulated stone joints; hipped slate roof with rebuilt central brick stack. Symmetrical, two-storey front with veranda. Wall surface is broken by three tall, tudor-arched recesses which rise from ground level to just below the eaves. On the first floor, centre recess has a blind window opening, those to l and r have 15-pane sashes, all with painted stone sills. On the ground floor again the centre is blind, with tall 8-pane double-doors left and right opening on to veranda. Veranda has hipped glass roof supported by six slender cast-iron columns which have: octagonal moulded bases, reeded shafts with tiny capitals and delicate honeysuckle decoration in the spandrels. E wall has large modern semi-circular arched fanlight window on ground floor with entrance porch to beyond , 6-panel door. W wall has 12-pane sash on ground floor and above at first floor level, a later C19 sash with marginal side lights. W wall extends into rear outshut, which has C20 glazed door with side window and 12-pane sash above.
Reason for designation
A rare example in the region of an elegant C19 villa retaining much of its character.
