Location
Approximately 250m SW of Llangynidr church and on S side and set back from Mardy Lane behind forecourt walls.
History
Said to have been built 1769, but improved mid C19. Wash lane to the W forming boundary with Danygraig, leading to the Nant Cleisfer with masonry steps down to the river. A number of wash lanes in between the houses backing onto the Nant Cleisfer were created to provide access to water supplies for the villagers.
Exterior
Two-storey double-fronted cottage of rubble stone painted white. Slate roof with end stone stacks. The front has openings offset to L with C19 stone lintels and sills. The lower storey has 12-pane hornless sashes, the upper storey C19 small-pane windows incorporating top-hung casements. The central 4-panel door has a 3- pane overlight. Lean-to added at rear 1930s.
Interior
Two-unit cottage. Main room to R has semi-circular stone stair L of fireplace and 2 thin cross-beams.
Reason for designation
A small cottage retaining early character and having group value with adjacent Danygraig.
