On the NW side of Mumbles Lighthouse on an islet off Mumbles Head.
History
Erected during the 1939-45 and serving 2 nearby gun emplacements.
Exterior
Rectangular 1-storey building of reinforced concrete with flat roof partly turf covered. On the E side is a doorway to the R with pintles for doubles doors, L of which is a window with external strap hinges of former shutters. The N and S walls both have 2 windows with similar hinges, while 1 window in the S wall retains part of a steel shutter. The W wall, built against a bank, has 4 lower-level openings. Above each opening is a row of narrow vertical vents, some blocked.
Interior
The roof is carried on 2 concrete cross beams. The floor has 4 low concrete bases and drainage channels.
Reason for designation
Included for group value with other associated listed items, including Mumbles Battery, demonstrating development of coastal defences here in the C19 and C20.
