Location
Prominently sited within the linear group of historic buildings leading to St. James's Square on the east side of Monmouth and about 300m east of the town centre.
History
Early C19 and apparently little altered since.
Exterior
Rough rendered and painted elevation, Welsh slate roof with red brick and rendered stacks. Double depth house with central entry and rear entry to left. Three storeys, two bays. On ground floor, basket arch to through passage to left hand with doorway immediately to right of it; 4-panel door with top 2 panels cut away and glazed; rectangular fanlight with tracery; architrave; flat hood on brackets. In right hand ground floor bay, tripartite sash with 6 over 6 panes flanked by 2 over 2. On first floor, two French casements with 8 + 8 panes and overlights, wrought iron balconies before them. Two sash windows with 4 over 8 panes on second floor. Modillion eaves cornice, low pitch roof with paired brick stacks to right hand wall.
Rear elevation has replacement windows except for the arched stair window in the centre.

Interior not seen at resurvey.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as an early C19 house of definite character near Monmouth town centre.
