Location
Prominently sited within the linear group of historic buildings leading to St. James's Square on the east side of Monmouth and about 300m east of the town centre.
History
Probably late C18. In use as a part of The Grange, the Monmouth School Preparatory Department with resulting alterations.
Exterior
Stucco fronted and painted, probably over brick, Welsh slate roof. Double depth central entry plan. Three storeys, three windows. Double hung sashes with stone cills, 2 over 2 panes on the ground floor, 6 over 6 on the first floor and 3 over 3 on the upper floor. Timber Roman Doric doorcase with broken pediment, and transom light over 6-panel door. Overhanging eaves, hipped bell-cast roof with brick stack on either wall.
Rear elevation also rendered and painted.
Interior
Also part of The Grange Preparatory School but interior not seen at resurvey.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as an C18 house of definite character near Monmouth town centre.
