On a meadow at a loop of the river Wye to N of Tintern Abbey.
History
The name board was probably erected in 1908 by the Great Western Railway when it took over the Monmouth and Wye Valley Railway.
Exterior
The name board is constructed of cast iron and timber. Cast iron cylindrical posts with 'mustard pot' caps carry a timber sign board with raised lettering TINTERN.
Reason for designation
Included as a very rare surviving GWR station name board in situ, and for its group value with the other buildings at Tintern station.
