Name of Property
Llysdinam Lodge
Location
Located at the entrance to Llysdinam, on the W side of the driveway. It is on the SW side of the lane which runs through the village.
History
The style of the lodge would suggest a mid-late C19 date. A long range is shown in this location on the tithe map of 1841 and may be an earlier lodge to Llysdinam.
Exterior
Main range orientated N-S with advanced gable to E front offset to L and rear wing. Constructed of snecked rock-faced stone under steeply pitched slate-covered roofs with fleur-de-lis ridge tiles. Two stone stacks to rear, an eaves stack and large stack between main range and rear wing. The front entrance is L of centre in the advanced gable. Planked door under a hipped slate-covered porch canopy supported on arched brackets. To the upper storey and offset to the R is a narrow light containing 4 vertical panes under a large stone lintel. Similar windows to each side of advanced bay at ground floor level. To the R of the advanced gable is a canted bay window with hipped roof. Each face has a multi-pane cross-window. The S gable end has a similar canted bay window containing 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. Two-light multipane casement above with large stone lintel. The N gable end has similar casements to each storey. The rear wing has been altered and is roughcast under a shallow slate roof. It has a wide C20 window to each storey to the gable end. Shallow lean-to to L with glazed opening, and narrow window into its N side. Above the lean-to, offset to the R, is a small window, probably a stairlight.
Interior
No access to interior at time of inspection.
Reason for designation
Listed as a Victorian lodge retaining its character, and for group value with Llysdinam.
