History
An C18 or early C19 house built by the Grosvenor Estate and first shown on the 1839 Tithe map. The Grosvenor family owned an extensive estate and mineral rights in the Halkyn area. Halkyn Castle was built for the second Earl Grosvenor in 1824-7 and was used as an occasional residence. The Earl was later made Duke of Westminster.
Exterior
A Georgian 2-storey 5-bay house of rendered walls painted white, and hipped slate roof with projecting boarded eaves. It comprises a main range with short rear wing on the L side, giving an L-shaped plan, and shallow projections behind the main range. A single brick stack is behind to the L. The front is symmetrical but the bays are unequal, the outer windows being set further apart. The windows are small-paned horned sashes, except on the R of the doorway in the lower storey, which has hornless sashes. The central entrance has an early C20 Tuscan portico, a fielded-panel door and added side panels. Against the L angle of the front is a rubble-stone garden wall. The 2-bay L side wall of the house has small-pane sash windows above an added conservatory. The rear wall has a large-pane sash window above a half-lit door. The L side wall of the rear wing is gabled and has a brick end stack above a large-pane sash window in the upper storey. To its L is a shallow 2-storey projection behind the main range with narrow and tall large-pane sash windows to the centre and lower L, and a boarded door lower R. Further L is a modern flat-roofed single-storey projection, above which are 2 large-pane sashes. In the R side wall of the house are also 2 large-pane sash windows in the lower storey.

Listed as a small Georgian country house retaining original character and detail, and for its contribution to the historic character of Halkyn.
