History
Portmeirion was designed and laid out by the celebrated architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978) following his purchase of the estate, then called Aber Iâ, in 1926. The village evolved over several decades and was still being added to in the 1970s.
C19 dovecote associated with the original Aber Ia (now the hotel building; `Cloughed-up' by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis).
Exterior
Rubble dovecote in the form of a cylindrical tower. The upper section has four tiers of nesting boxes with square holes and continuous projecting slate ledges. The structure is surmounted by a rendered balustrade with slatestone capping.
Reason for designation
Listed as a C19 dovecote with alterations by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis.
