A large C17 house, originally of 2 units, with an C18 rear wing, forming an L-shaped plan shown on the 1844 Tithe map. It was occupied c1843 by dragoons called in to quell the Rebecca riots, and 1857-68 was used as a school. An addition at the rear is shown on the 1889 Ordnance Survey. By the end of the C19 it had been subdivided into tenements and remained in multiple occupation until it was converted to a hotel in the 1980s.  

A 2½-storey former house of whitened rubble stone and steep slate roof with external stack to the R and central ridge stack, both C17, and 2 inserted skylights R of centre. The front elevation is a late C19 remodelling and shows clearly the division of the house into multi-occupation. On the R-hand side is a 3-window dwelling comprising central French doors flanked by 6-pane sash windows, with similar windows in the upper storey. Openings on the L-hand side indicate a pair of single-fronted former dwellings, comprising three 6-pane sash windows in the lower storey (the R-hand of which was originally a doorway) and French doors centre-L, while in the upper storey are 2 taller 6-pane sash windows. All openings have lintels renewed in concrete. The R gable end of the house has a stone mounting block L of the stack, and a small-pane attic window also to the L of the stack. The 2½-storey rear wing, with a single skylight, is set back slightly from the R gable end of the main range, and has a tall small-pane stair light to the L, a 6-pane horned sash window upper R and a window lower R in place of a former doorway. An added link has been built to connect with a gabled C19 outbuilding. The rear of the main range has a 2-storey flat-roofed projection heightened from the addition shown here in 1889, to the R of which are a small-pane window then an enlarged window, both beneath the eaves.  

Modernised internally, although the position of the central fireplace, with timber lintel, is retained. Said by RCAHM Wales to retain original collar-beam trusses.  

Listed for the strong architectural character of its exterior, comprising a distinct C17 form with C19 remodelling.
