Full Report for Listed Buildings

By law, the definition of a listed building includes the entire building (i) and any structure or object that is fixed to the said building and ancillary to it and (ii) any other structure or object that forms part of the land and has done so since before 1 July 1948, and was within the curtilage of the building, and ancillary to it, on the date on which said building was first included in the list, or on 1 January 1969, whichever was later.

It is known that a windmill was built on the hill between 1617 and 1642. A mill on the site of the present building is apparently shown on a map of 1748 by Lewis Morris. A windmill is clearly at this site in the illustration in Pennant's "Tour" of Gloddaeth Hall. By 1840, the building was a dwelling the "Old Windmill", the small extension probably dates from then, the attractive conical slate roof dates from about 1930. The building was renovated and extended from the late 1970s.

Tapering mill tower, pebbledashed, with pointed slate roof with brick chimney; windows at 2 levels, modern glazing. Small two-storey extension in matching materials, also with brick chimney. Larger late C20 extension not included.
Interior
In old tower, ground floor room has 2 exposed beams, upper floor has single stop-chamfered beam.
