History
Built as one of a pair with No 6 in the early C19 and shown on the 1841 Tithe map.
Exterior
A late-Georgian 3-storey 2-bay house of distinctive large coursed blocks of unworked rubble stone with stone lintels, beneath a slate roof on overhanging eaves, with stone end stacks, shared to the R. The lower storey was altered to form a shop front and has been rendered. It has a replacement door to the L in a wider splayed opening, and 2 small-pane windows to its R. In the middle storey are 12-pane horned sash windows, and in the upper storey shorter 12-pane horned sash windows. The L gable end is set back to the R side, and a lower former bakery is attached.
Reason for designation
Listed for its special architectural interest as a town house retaining definite C19 character, and for its contribution with other buildings in Corbet Square, Red Lion Street and Maengwyn Street, to the historical integrity of the old town centre.
