Location
At the S edge of Brecon Community, about 1.5km S of the centre; reached by track through Bailyhelig Farm.
History
Barn and house probably of C18 date with C19 and C20 alterations and additions to house.
Exterior
Long house derivative; barn and house adjoin each other along W side of farmyard, with part of the farmhouse, comprising a lean-to, against a long rear elevation of the barn. The barn is at the N end of the range and the farmhouse at the S end. Barn of 4 bays with slate roof and stone walls and loft entry in N gable end. Tall double doors with slate canopies on both sides of barn in 2nd bay from N end; stone threshing floor. Part of the farmhouse, comprising a lean-to, is built against the S bay of the western elevation of the barn; slate roof continuous with roof of barn; chimney stack; colour-washed stone rubble walls. The remainder of the farmhouse to the S has a separate slate roof with higher ridge than the barn. The E elevation of the farmhouse is of 2 storeys, 2 bays with central doorway; ground floor of painted stone rubble, with stonework similar to that of the barn although with apparently discontinuous courses; upper floor of painted brick. Small-pane Brecon hopper windows; modern painted brick porch.
Reason for designation
A rare example within Brecon Community of a relatively unaltered longhouse derivative farmhouse and attached barn. Group Value with and former stable to rear.
