Forecourt Walls & Railings to the Brecknock Museum
Location
Surrounding forecourt on E side of Brecknock Museum.
History
Probably contemporary with Museum (former Shire Hall), built 1839-43. The posts of the railings are fasces, the bundles of rods and an axe carried by Roman officials to demonstrate their powers of punishment.
Exterior
Forecourt enclosed by stone dwarf walls and heavy cast iron railings. The walls and railings are in 2 main sections, either side of entrance to forecourt. The wall becomes higher on S side of building as road outside drops down towards River Usk. Walls and railings continue to rear of the building also.
