Pont Llangadfan
Location
In the village of Llangadfan reached by a minor road about 250m south of the Cann Office Hotel.
History
A County Bridge built by Thomas Penson, County Surveyor, in 1845. The Rev. G Howell, rector of Llangadfan, placed coins under the bridge abutments.
Exterior
A single-arch bridge of elliptical form, in carefully dressed regular masonry, with a span of about 15 m.
Enlarged keystone each side, hanging from a string course at the base of the parapet. The parapets are in
masonry with a furrowed finish.
Carriageway about four m wide with parapets about 900 mm high, turned out at corners.
Reason for designation
The bridge is a fine example of the work of the architect and engineer Thomas Penson (County Surveyor
of Montgomeryshire from 1820 to 1859), the detailing characteristic of his work.
