Location
Carrying the B391 road over the Afon Tanat in the village of Penybontfawr.
History
A small bridge probably built or adapted by Thomas Penson, County Surveyor. The style is indicative of Penson's work. Said to have been built in 1827 but this may be the date of an adaptation. Marked on the Tithe Map, 1839.
Exterior
A low segmental single arch bridge with a span of about 8 metres, with rusticated sandstone voussoirs, including a tall keystone which hangs from the sandstone string course. The common masonry is of axe-dressed slate. The bridge is similarly dressed on both faces.
The road over the bridge is about 8 metres in width, with low parapets and flat copings. The parapets are slightly turned out at the ends.
Reason for designation
An early-C19 bridge which has escaped alteration.
