Located some 20m E of Old Bodnod; set back slightly on the W side of the lane leading from Bodnant to Graig.  

Agriculture and Subsistence  

 

Late C16 or early C17 barn associated with the primary Old Bodnod. Originally a 4-bay barn with high rubble plinth and timber-framed upper section; wall posts and struts, together with sections of cill plate are discernible both on the interior and exterior elevations. The barn was encased in rubble and extended by one bay southwards c1700; at this date a fine ogee-stopped-chamfered ceiling of earlier, domestic character was inserted in the added bay. It is possible that this came from the original parlour, which appears to have been shortened and rebuilt during the same intervention.  

Long rubble barn with slate roof, set into a gentle incline. Old boarded stable door at L (late C18 or early C19) with pegged door frame and exposed timber lintel; to the R of this, a former entrance, now a small contemporary window opening with frame as before and boarded shutter. Beyond, to the R, a further stable door and two large, wide boarded doors with exposed oak lintels. Small latticed window far R and above, two shallow catslide dormers. External stone-stepped access to first floor entrance at S gable end; recessed boarded door, unglazed window opening to ground-floor L. Further unglazed and latticed window openings to rear with opposing main entry off-centre R; vertical ventilation slits, some blocked to rear and N gable.  

5-bay interior with original pegged, collar and tie-beam trusses, with wall-post tops mostly visible and neatly stopped-chamfered struts. Stepped-up N bay with brick floor and wooden dado partition and later brick and rubble dividing wall between bays 3 and 4. The southern, down-hill bay has an ogee stopped-chamfered ceiling of late C16 or early C17 character.  

A large sub-medieval vernacular barn with part-timber-framed origins. Group value with Old Bodnod.
