Location
Very near the end of the westernmost range on the S side of Bridge Street and near the bridge.
History
Late Victorian. Formerly Bunnings Ironmongers premises. Formerly the frontage was crowned with a pediment.
Exterior
Late Victorian business premises. Built of yellow brick with contrasting red brick dressings and black and white paintwork; slate roof with tall yellow brick ridge stack. Three storeys. Two units. To right the frontage ends with a tall swept parapet with central semicircular window with moulded brick surround above a shallow balcony with hipped and swept lead roof and moulded balustrade to the triple window behind; blind openings either side. First floor has two unequally canted bay display windows with central recessed glazed door giving onto small balcony with wrought iron balustrade; narrow decorative fascia. Ground floor shopfront has deep bracketed fascia with billet frieze and wide shop window with slender mullions and part glazed door at right. Much narrower unit to left has a steep red brick gable to top floor window, a sash with margin glazing to top light; tripartite sash to first floor with red brick voussoirs and keystone. Ground floor has fascia continuous with main unit and beneath the wide original main entrance with wrought iron gate and screen incorporating the shop name 'Bunning'; further narrow doorway with double overlight adjacent at end left. Raised enriched terracotta quoins to each side.
Reason for designation
An unusual late Victorian commercial building of a well-known local business. Group value with other listed buildings in Bridge Street.
