Long farm building, probably large lofted stable and cartshed range, mid to later C19 and built for the Nanteos estate, owners of Great Abbey farm from the C18. Marked as stable on S.W. Williams plan of the Abbey ruins of 1888, not marked on the 1843 Tithe map.
Exterior
Farm building range. Rubble stone with slate roof. Long lofted building with stone steps to loft doors at both gable ends. W end door has stone voussoirs, E end door has brick head.
S front to yard has two cart-entries to left with stone voussoirs to arched heads, then an opening with iron lintel under a long loft door, then a window and door with yellow stone voussoirs and further window and door with voussoirs, set slightly higher - above are two loft windows under eaves. Then outside stone steps to loft door and finally a large boarded loft opening
Rear wall is mostly windowless: two 16-pane loft windows towards right end and lofted stable at left end with two 16-pane windows each floor and central door. Cut stone voussoirs to ground floor openings, possibly re-used. Slab lintels to first floor windows, and straight joint to right of first floor openings, suggesting a rebuilding of a single-storey range.
Reason for designation
Included as a large C19 farm building, of group value with Great Abbey farmhouse.
