Location
In the street leading north-east out of the town square in the centre of Monmouth.
History
Early C19 frontage but may have earlier fabric behind. Mid C19 shopfront with the display window altered in the C20. Church Street had some widening as part of the improvements associated with Priory Street and White Swan Court in c1837, but according to the maps the south side of the street had been set back in part previous to this. It is not known whether No. 13 is a complete rebuild or if C17 fabric remains.
Exterior
Painted render, probably over brick, rusticated quoins, roof not visible from the street. Three storey single bay frontage, indicating possible early origins. The shopfront has the door to the right; 2 pane window with plain stallriser and cornice on heavy brackets, panelled and part glazed door with overlight. Eight over 8 pane sash with stone cill to each floor above. Plain coped parapet. Rear elevation not seen.
Interior
Interior not available at resurvey, apart from the shop premises.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period building and as part of the continuous run of historic buildings in Church Street.
