Early C19 front on a C17 building, late C20 shopfront.

Rendered and painted front to street, probably brick, the main building is gable end to the street and has stone rubble walls and a Welsh slate roof. Gable end plan. Two storeys, one window. The ground floor has a glass and aluminium shopfront with door on the left. The first floor has a plain 2 over 2 pane sash, parapet above. The gable tip can be seen from the street and the position of the downpipe hoppers indicates where the gable slope descends, tall rendered stack to right. The rear elevation has been altered and extended and has a later door and window above, it however, clearly demonstrates the C17 form of a house gable end to street. Rear elevation very altered with projecting C20 steel stairway.
Interior
Much altered and with the ground floor entirely opened out and extended. The upper floor shows roughly chamfered cross-beams with rudimentary stops. Principal rafter roof.
Reason for designation
Included for its special architectural interest as a surviving pre-Georgian (partly altered) historic building in the Monmouth town centre.
