Situated overlooking A40 approach road, attached to No 31, Cartlett House.
History
C17 house, an inn since at least the later C19, recorded as such in 1884 directory. An old photograph shows small-paned sash windows, nine-pane above, 12-pane below, typical of the early C19.
Exterior
Inn, painted stucco with steep-pitched slate roof and very large rubble-stone external chimney breast and square stack at left end. Red brick right end stack. Two storey, three-window range of C19 4-pane sashes, the lower ones longer, and centre door with head lower than the adjoining windows. Slate sills.
Dwarf front walll and railings mostly removed (2005).
Interior
Interior not inspected. Original fireplace said to be blocked.
Reason for designation
Included for its special historic interest as a substantial later C17 house, altered in C19, retaining massive 'Flemish' chimney.
