History
Built 1925 (dated) as part of the development Tre-Elidyr designed by Alfred Powell. It was built as a memorial to WWI and to the son of Lord Treowen and others of the village who died in the conflict. The school was included as part of Lady Treowen's encouragement of the use of the Welsh language, and to provide a school in the village as the existing one was a mile away near the parish church. It is externally unaltered on its principal elevation to the Memorial Green.

Exterior
The school is rendered and painted, probably over brick, and has a natural slate roof with red brick stacks. Single storey rectangular building in the manner of a classical orangery. Eleven bay front 4 + 3 + 3 with the centre three set forward with a pedimented temple front with Doric pilasters. Steps up to central panelled double doors with fanlight over. This is flanked by arched windows with impost band, fanlights and 8 + 8 pane casements. Above these three is the relief inscription YSGOL HARDDWCH GWLAD (Schooling, Beauty, Country). Toothed cornice to pediment which carries the relief inscription YSGOLDY TRE ELIDYR 1925. The wings each have four cross-framed casement windows. Toothed cornice, roof hipped overall, large stack at each end of the ridge. Rear elevation seen but there are late C20 extensions.

Interior
Interior not seen at resurvey.

Reason for designation
Included for its special interest as being a part of a planned War Memorial housing development around a green, which was designed by Alfred Powell and remains almost unaltered in detail. The school is also of interest as part of the Llanover Estate's concern for the preservation and encouragement of the Welsh language.
