In a block of commercial and residential buildings fronting the street.
History
A mid C19 shop and house first shown on the 1889 Ordnance Survey. probably a single build with numbers 17 and 19.
Exterior
A late-Georgian style 3-storey 1-bay shop and house in a single range with Nos 17 and 19. Its front is a later remodelling as a pair with No 19, a scribed roughcast front painted cream, black-painted raised quoins to the R (balanced by quoins to No 19) and slate roof. The shop has a glazed door and overlight to the L, reached up slate steps, and a plate-glass shop window, all framed by simple pilasters. The fascia has been removed and the wall rendered in its place. On the R side is a replacement panelled door and overlight under a cambered head, in an eared and pedimented surround. Hornless sash windows are in eared architraves, with pediment to 16-pane 1st-floor window and 12-pane (4+8) 2nd-floor window.
Reason for designation
Listed for its special architectural interest as a commercial building of definite C19 character, and for its contribution to the historical townscape.
