In a terrace nearly opposite the W entrance to St Mary's churchyard.
History
An C18 house with front remodelled in the C19.
Exterior
A 2½-storey single-fronted cottage in a range comprising Nos 4-10 Church Street. Of pebble dash painted light green, steep slate roof with shared brick stack on the L side and rear skylight. The entrance on the R has a replacement half-glazed panel door. Replacement hornless sash windows are 16-pane in the ground floor and 12-pane on the 1st floor. In the R gable end is a 9-pane hornless sash window to the attic, and similar inserted window lower R.
Behind, a rendered rear wing was formerly probably a separate premises that is now divided between No 4 Church Street and No 22 Rose Hill Street. It has an inserted half-glazed panel door in the lower storey. Directly above it a small window has been inserted into a former gabled loading doorway, which retains its pulley block.
Reason for designation
Listed for its special architectural interest as an C18 terraced house retaining its overall form with C19 remodelling, forming a strong visual group with Nos 6-10 and contributing to the historical townscape.
