Situated on rising ground near the edge of the town, below the road leading to the former Pump House Hotel. Opposite the corner with Beaufort Road.

Small Arts and Crafts house (influence of Lutyens and Voysey) built in 1914-16 for Dr Worthington by Mr Maxwell Smith of Cambridge. The builders were Turford and Southward of Ludlow. The planning of the building was turned through 90 degrees to avoid the main room facing the then recently built Wells Hotel.  

3-storey and attic, roughcast and dark brick front (in contrast to the Ruabon brick dominant in the town) entered at 1st floor level. Broad central chimney breast with set off to right and 3 brick stacks to top with moulded caps (cf. Folly Farm, Sulhampstead, by Lutyens). Tiled roof with tile-hung cross gable slightly jettied to top with casement window below. Wide exposed eaves. Casement windows to roughcast 2nd floor swept over band course. Oculus window with brick surround to left under kneeler with ball finial and pilaster strip to end. Brick 1st floor with casement window to right set assymetrically around the corner (cf. Plumpton Place, Sussex, by Lutyens). 4-light casement to centre and stepped semicircular arched entrance to left of steps. Broad chamfered jambs; recessed porch with double half-glazed doors. Brick and cement render ground floor with buttress to right and 2 segmental 4 light casements. Brick right side with tile-hung and jettied gable supported on two large scroll brackets. Large 5-light bay window; flat hood to porch with half-glazed door. Roughcast left side with casement windows and 2-storey flat roof extension. 2 storey and attic rear (s side) with tile hung gable jettied over 3-light attic window. Lean-to lower roof with overall timberwork dormer. 3-light windows to ends. 2 brick chimney stacks with moulded caps.  

Interior retains hall with minstrel's gallery supported on timber beams with brackets. Wide splayed bay window and recessed fireplace. Few alterations in conversion to flats have retained the character.
