History
The former seat of the Lewis family from the C16 (Sir George Cornewall Lewis was Chancellor of the Exchequer under Palmerston). The house was sold in 1953 and the main domestic ranges demolished in 1956. The north-west wing and the stable yard survive.

Exterior
Later C19, neo-Tudor 3-storey block of snecked rubble facings and ashlar dressings. Stepped gable ends, finials, 2 oriel bays, 2-storey canted corner block forming entrance hall. East gable end has drip-course stepped around recessed panel with armorial plaque. Chamfered multi-lights with large-paned horned sashes. To north is adjoining fragment of earlier tower with battlements and machicolations, in coursed rubble stone with triple-shafted corner stack and pyramid-capped look-out block, loopholes, round-headed windows under hood moulds. Various improvements were made by the architect, John Nash, to the (demolished) house for T Frankland Lewis in the early C19.
