The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument is a fine standing stone probably dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 BC - 800 BC). It is located in an enclosed field of permanent pasture on a gently sloping W facing terrace above the River Gwaun. The stone is upright and earthfast. It is notable for its bent profile and flattened top. The standing stone is 1.7 m tall, 1.1 m wide and 0.7 m deep. It is NW-SE oriented. Earthfast packing stones are visible at the base of the standing stone. A further standing stone (Scheduled Ancient Monument PE202) is located 700 m NNE, but is not currently intervisible. The standing stone is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric ritual practices. Such standing stones are assumed to have had some form of religious or ceremonial function. It represents a notable element in the wider prehistoric and funerary landscape. The monument retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The area to be scheduled comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is circular and measures 6m in diameter.
