The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of a stone setting, an arrangement of one or more standing stones where the original form of the monument is unclear, dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. It is located immediately N of an old coach road, now a public footpath, in an upland setting. The Nant Heilyn stone setting comprises an oval setting of stones, some upright, some flat, and some set on edge. The internal dimensions of the setting are 3.5m x 2m and the stones vary in size from 0.7m to over 1m in length. Although there are gaps between the stones, no clear entrances can be discerned. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The features are of an unusual form, are an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retain significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of both intact ritual and burial deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. Stone settings are often part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. It is a circle and measures 10m in diameter.
