The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises a massive recumbent block of sandstone 3.55m (E-W) x 0.95m (N-S) x 0.85m high, occupying level ground on the plateau approximately 100m ESE of Crugian Bach Stone Circle (BR 274). An expanse of bog separates the stone from higher ground to the S. The stone currently lies in a hollow eroded out by sheep, the western end of which contains several rounded stones, partly underlying the slab and probably indicating that it formerly stood upright in this position. The upper and western faces of the stone are angular, whilst the eastern end is worn and tapered. The hollow also contains a smaller, more rounded recumbent slab (1.5m x 0.8m x 0.6m high) immediately adjacent and to the north. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric religious, funerary and ritual practices. It is located within a landscape of extensive and possibly directly related prehistoric remains of high group value and may have formed part of a more extensive ritual complex associated with the stone circle to the WNW. A much smaller outlying standing stone has been scheduled c. 40m NNE of the stone circle and a number of Bronze age cairns have been recorded on the same plateau. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and the area around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive. This is circular in plan and measures 10m in diameter.
