The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument consists of the remains of a building of unknown character and date. The building is constructed of stone and is approximately 15m long and 8.5m wide. It is situated within a curvilinear enclosure in the centre of Llanfilo Village. The structures lies between the medieval church and a moated site or manor. There are no visible standing walls above ground level, but were evident from archaeological excavation, which also produced medieval pottery and features suggesting a medieval date for the building. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of construction techniques and settlement organisation. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structure itself may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The building may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and its importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
