The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of small, compact settlement or single homestead dating to the Iron Age or Romano-British period (c. 800 BC - AD 400). The site occupies a small terrace in a north-east facing slope and consists of three huts within a roughly oval enclosure. The features are visible as rounded banks and terraces with occasional exposed facing stones. The enclosure has dimensions of 36m x 42m and is defined by a low bank which is most pronounced where it is terraced out onto the slope to the north-east. This is a complete and well preserved settlement of proven antiquity from finds discovered in the past. The monument is of particular interest due to its survival in a lowland area where this type of earth constructed site is rare. It is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement practices. It is an important relic of the prehistoric landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of environmental and structural evidence, including preserved internal and external floor levels. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
