Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The site is a single, large, substantially built hut circle of the Romano-British period. It lies on the lee side of a small promontory ridge which overlooks the Goedol Valley.
The hut circle is approximately 12m in diameter internally and 17m to 20m overall with walling surviving up to 1.5m high. The entrance appears to be to the SE.
This is an unusually large, well preserved and substantially built round hut. Partial excavation has proved the site to be archaeologically rich with well preserved structural features and undisturbed internal floor levels. Archaeological finds have shown the site to be of Romano-British date and suggest that it could have been of high status. Much of the hut remains untouched by excavation giving the site a high potential for research as well as being a good example of its type.
The scheduled area consists of a circle of 28m diameter, centred on the hut.
