Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument.
The monument is of Iron Age or Romano-British date (c.800BC to AD400) and comprises the remains of three conjoined circular huts set within the boundaries of a contemporary enclosure. Also present are the remains of a later stone building.
The monument is a good example of a small enclosed hut circle settlement and is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement practices. The site retains significant archaeological potential; there is a strong probability of the presence of environmental and structural evidence, including preserved internal and external floor levels. The monument is an important relic of the prehistoric landscape, enhanced by the presence of other contemporary settlements within the area. It also demonstrates an interesting continuity of use with the construction of later buildings on the same site.
The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
