The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument comprises the remains of two cairns, which probably dates to the Bronze Age (c. 2300 - 800 BC). The eastern cairn is larger, measuring 9m in diameter and 1m high. It has a central cist comprising one side and one end slab. The two remaining slabs are tilting but secure, protruding form the cairn up to 30cm. The second cairn lies 65m to the west , is 1m high and is slightly oval in shape, orientated east/west. Traces of old ridge and furrow can be seen to one side which may have caused the eccentricity in shape. Two cairns on sloping, unimproved moorland with unbroken grass and bracken cover used for low density sheep pasture. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. The features are an important relic of a prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape and retain significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of both intact ritual and burial deposits, together with environmental and structural evidence. Cairns may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
