Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The monument consists of a stone with a cross carved into the surface, probably dating to the medieval period. The stone presently stands in the front garden of a residential property and is set in concrete and is 1.2m in height and 0.5m width, its depth varies along its heigth from 0.1m to 0.18m and 1 tapers slightly towards the top. A very faint cross is incised on the north side of the stone.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. A cross marked stone may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value.
