The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Ancient Monument. The monument consists of the remains of a small, circular earthwork enclosure probably dating to the later prehistoric period (c. 800BC - AD 74). Located on the slope of a hill, it measures approx. 24m in diameter, surrounded by a single bank and ditch. The ditch is more deeply cut on the west and south-west where the external height is nearly a metre high. The bank and ditch are absent on the northern half of the enclosure. A modern stone wall bisects the site from east to west. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric defensive organisation and settlement. The site forms an important element within the wider later prehistoric context and within the surrounding landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, building techniques and functional detail. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
