The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of multiple hut circles with terraced fields which probably dates from the first millennium BC, the late Bronze Age or Iron Age. Just to the S, outside the enclosure is a rectangular hut and to the E of the enclosure is a single unenclosed round hut. The almost circular enclosure measures approximately 38m in diameter and has been terraced into the slope so that the southern edge of the enclosure lies 3m above the outside level. The north side of the enclosure is overlain by a road. The entrance, part overlain by a field wall, is on the west side. There are the remains of three round huts and other structures inside; round hut A measures 8m in internal diameter with an entrance on the west; round hut B measures 6m in internal diameter with an entrance on the west; an oval hut C measures 6m by 3m with an attached structure D; and part of a round hut E, most of which now lies under the road. The rectangular structure F, outside the enclosure, has squared corners and measures 6.25m by 4m, with an entrance on the west; it is probably later in date. A well-preserved series of terraced fields with retaining walls over 2m high lies to the south. The remains of a single unenclosed round hut lies 80m to the E of the centre of the enclosure. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement practices. It is an important relic of the prehistoric landscape and retains significant archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of environmental and structural evidence, including preserved internal and external floor levels. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
