The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. The monument consists of a stone with a cross carved into the surface, probably dating to the 8th or 9th century, the early-medieval period. This small stone is set in a prepared niche at the base of a roadside wall, having been moved from its original position in a nearby field. It measures 0.5m in height and 0.5m in width. The stone bears an incised cross within a ring which measures 0.25m in diameter. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of the organisation and practice of medieval Christianity. A cross marked stone may be part of a larger cluster of monuments and their importance can further enhanced by their group value. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
