Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. A Roman bath-house, dated by excavation in 1908 to a period starting in the second century AD and continuing into the fourth. Six rooms were identified and two of them contained hypocausts. There are no surviving upstanding remains of this monument. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of Roman remains. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
