Description

Summary Description and Reason for Designation
The following provides a general description of the Scheduled Monument. Group consisting of rectangular huts and enclosures, with terraces and boundary walls, probably forming an early medieval residence. On SE slope of Bodafon Mountain, 1500m SSW of church. A number of field boundaries can be seen within the forest surrounding the remaining buildings. Excavated in 1954 by W E Griffiths. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of early medieval settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques. The scheduled areas comprise the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
